All sorts of studies keep suggesting that the GOP is horribly losing every PR battle there is to lose. The problem is not with policy per se, but rather in "marketing" and advertising, and of course the media not being terribly friendly either. Both sides of the ailse have their strengths and weaknesses. Yes, when it comes to the most important values, "life", "family", etc., the Repubs generally, though not exclusively, have the stronger positions.
The above said, I think I agree with the "selling" issue here with the GOP. I, myself, am of more "Independent" thought and persuasion, Dems have some good ideas and Repubs do too. However, when it comes to matters like the Fiscal Cliff - the GOP pretty much OWNS this issue for the large part - they will tackle the chief sickness - an addiction to spending. Dems are generally fighting any cuts whatsoever, as if their very lives depended on it, which on this particular matter - is a real problem. However, if the GOP in general were more successful with their "presentation" of thought, well, their influence culturally might be a tad stronger. Of course, I fully grant that the media, by in large, is clearly more friendly toward the Dems - no question about it. Such as it is, Repubs practically speaking have to deal with this and figure out a way at least "minimize the damage." I generally think "educating" the masses is critical - and the only way the GOP will turn the tide. Again, this is not to say Dems don't have some good ideas, but rather that, when the Dems are wrong they are still winning because of the reputation the GOP has via the media.
