Notre Dame to Lead March for Life
The University of Notre Dame Right to Life Club has received the honor of leading the annual March for Life on January 25, which this year observes the 40th anniversary of the legalization of abortion handed down in the Roe v. Wade court case.
Notre Dame students and some faculty will hold the large “March for Life” banner and lead the annual march on the nation’s capital. Notre Dame will have one of the largest groups present, with reportedly more than 600 students, faculty and staff currently registered to attend.
“The march is an amazing witness to the passion and sheer size of the pro-life movement,” said Jen Gallic, president of Notre Dame Right to Life in a press release. “It is such an honor and very humbling to be asked to lead all those dedicated to upholding the dignity in every life.”
Gallic added: “The March is so important because it provides an opportunity for the pro-life community to come together and fight the injustices inflicted on the smallest and most innocent among us, which is why we are so happy to have such a large group of dedicated students, faculty and staff from Notre Dame. It is my hope that the entire Notre Dame family, including friends and alumni, will be with us at the march, either physically or through prayer. This incredible display of support will show that we are not only a premiere university, but that we are also dedicated to our Catholic values.”
In observance of Respect Life Month in October, University of Notre Dame President Fr. John Jenkins led a “Rosary for Life” in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Fr. Jenkins has also walked in the March for Life in the years following the university’s honoring of President Barack Obama in 2009.
Last year, students from Christendom College received the honor of leading the March.
